Highlands Ranch Civil Air Patrol Cadet completes flight training

by 1st Lt Terese Barta, CAP

Oshkosh, WI. Joshua Dorow, son of Chris and Amy Dorow of Highlands Ranch, CO, completed 10 hours of flight training in a Cessna 172 aircraft during this year’s National Flight Academy (NFA) held by the Civil Air Patrol. The NFA was held June 12-21 at Wittman Regional Airport, Oshkosh, WI. During the Academy, he achieved a pre-solo flight, which involves taking off and landing the plane without assistance from his on-board flight instructor. Dorow, a Cadet Technical Sergeant in the Mustang Cadet Squadron (Englewood CO), has been a member of CAP for seven years. His flight instructor at NFA was CAP Senior Member Beth Hovland (Fox Cites Squadron, Wisconsin Wing). The Civil Air Patrol is the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force. CAP’s three primary missions include Emergency Services (search and rescue and disaster relief), Aerospace Education, and Cadet Programs. Over 22,000 young Americans ages 12-20 participate in the CAP Cadet Program, which trains young men and women in teamwork, moral leadership, aerospace education, and technical skills to support emergency services. The National Flight Academy is one of many special activities offered across the country that CAP cadets are eligible to participate in during the summer.
